Overview

With a metric ton of mojo and enough natural patina to make even Drew Pritchard cry - this outstanding 1963 Fender is the Musicmaster to have if you're looking for a rare pre-CBS model with top-to-toe originality and some truly vintage Fullerton funk vibes!

Why this 1963 Musicmaster ticks all the boxes:

  • Ultra low serial number (L00779)
  • Original frets
  • Original electronics - 1963 Stackpole 250k audio pots (stamped AUD 304-6315), Switchcraft jack and Musicmaster pickup.
  • Untouched wiring loom with zero resoldering - this has been untampered with since it left the Fullerton factory in 1963!
  • Unmodified body in original "Maroon Burst" (no refin)
  • Original nitrocellulose lacquer on the neck (no refin)
  • Original Kluson Single Line Tuners
  • Original screws throughout
  • Original hardshell case (with both spring-loaded latches fully working!)

Having been stored away as part of a private collection for approximately the past 20 years, it is a pleasure to be able to offer this unique pre-CBS Fender to the market. This guitar is nothing short of an absolute joy to play, with its 22.5" scale length, original frets and huge vintage vibes - it will instantly conjour a giant grin across your face!

Both the neck and body are in their original factory finish with plenty of tasteful scuffs and wear (it's basically a completely natural medium-heavy relic). It should be noted that the serial number on this Musicmaster is a very low L00779, making the neck plate alone worth a small fortune!

The maple A-width neck feels extremely nice in the hand, it has worn-in beautifully over the years and is superbly tactile! The bottom of the neck's heel is clearly stamped "3/4 APR 63 A" - denoting its shorter scale length, manufacturing date and width (A = 1.5" at the nut).

The neck also features clay dots on a particularly characterful piece of rosewood for the round-lam fingerboard. If you're after a fingerboard of this construction method in particular, then a '63 is nice as it was the first full year Fender produced them (the transition from the slab boards began during '62).

The headstock is still fitted with its original Kluson single line tuners. These are fully working and feature lots of cool patina on them, just check out the discolouration to the plastic buttons! The headstock still has its logo (a bit of wear to the Fender "F") with the patent reference "PAT 2,573,254" still visible.

This Musicmaster is a timewarp to the Fullerton factory in 1963; under its single ply pickguard all the electronics and wiring loom are completely untouched. There has been zero resoldering anywhere and it even still has the original masking tape which leads the wiring to the pickup. Both 1963 Stackpole 250k potentiometers are fully working with no issues and are clearly stamped AUD 304-6315, the original Switchcraft jack is also fully working with no issues to report.

As an aside, the previous owner who our collector bought it from over 20+ years ago stated that this guitar actually belonged to one of Faron Young's songwriters. Unfortunately we don't have the name of which songwriter or have anything to prove this provenance, but it's interesting nonetheless!

The original hardshell case is included, all latches are working including the two spring-loaded ones. Obviously it does have wear commensurate with a case that has travelled through the decades!

As is common, there is no ash tray (bridge cover) present, however, ones from this time period do pop-up for sale if you did wish to source one.

This weight of this Musicmaster is an ethereal 2.80kg/6.17lbs.
