It is a privilege to have available for sale this stunning Fender 1994 Custom Shop 40th Anniversary Diamond Dealer Limited Edition Stratocaster.
This highly sought-after Custom Shop release comes from a collector well-known to us at Smokestack Guitars, and it is 1 of only 50 export models.
Crafted as part of the highly limited run of only 150 instruments worldwide (100 for the USA and 50 for export), this particular instrument is a lovely example of the Diamond Dealer release. It features both the original Custom Shop Vintage Tweed Gig Bag & the SKB Hardshell Case ("the beast"), a John Page-signed COA and a Diamond Dealer ring with engraved matching serial number.
It's truly awe-inspiring to get to experience a Custom Shop Strat that's been both worked on and developed by so many Fender legends and contributors! For starters, the necks and bodies of these very special instruments were hand-selected and matched by none other than John Cruz and Duane Boulanger, under the supervision of J.W. Black! We then have the "Queen of Tone" herself, Abby Ybarra, responsible for hand-winding the set of Custom Shop '50s Strat pickups that are accented with gold-plated pole pieces.
In addition, this guitar features the most spectacular engraving on its 22-karat gold-plated scratchplate by Ron Chacey (the iconic banjo master engraver). The engraving design itself was created by Pamelina Hovnatanian, who also designed the guitar's matching Fender Custom Shop "V" ring.
The tonewood selection on this guitar is second to none. It has a beautiful, highly flamed 2-piece bookmatched maple top on a lightweight swamp ash body. This has been paired with a highly figured birdseye maple neck with a walnut skunk stripe. On the 12th fret, the marquetry artist Larry Sifel's work is on full display with a vibrant abalone and mother-of-pearl "1954-1994" banner inlay.
John Page, who was in charge of the Custom Shop at the time, later emphasised that these guitars were built to be players. Despite the ornate looks, we have to agree. It's simply a joy to play, and with its soft-"V" profile neck and lightweight swamp ash body, it's going to be a breeze for use in any extended playing sessions.
This guitar has been in a collection for most of its life, and for most of that time it has been stored in its two cases. As such, it's in excellent condition throughout, with no chips or dings anywhere; the gloss nitro lacquer throughout is also in excellent condition. The backplate still has its factory cellophane on from the factory.
The guitar has had some brief sporadic play over its lifetime, so please do expect some minor light signs of playwear and light patina. The frets are in excellent condition with few signs of any wear. Whoever ends up with this Diamond Dealer Strat will be thoroughly happy with it and viewing is most welcome!
The weight of this guitar is 3.62kg (7.98lbs).
The case candy includes the following: Certificate of Authenticity, Fender Custom Shop Vintage Tweed Gig Bag, Custom Shop Diamond Dealer Ring (with matching serial number), Case Key, Gold-Plated Bridge Cover, Tremolo Springs, Tremolo Arm. Also included is a Fender Custom Shop 60th Diamond Anniverary Strap (the original strap has been misplaced).
The original SKB hardshell case is included; it's in nice condition but does have some signs of mild wear. The Custom Shop Vintage Tweed Gig Bag is immaculate and looks like new, the strap for it is included but not pictured (inside the front pouch).

Returns: Returns are allowed within 14 days of purchase. Goods must be returned to us in the exact same condition that they were sent in and you must contact us beforehand to authorise a return - no exceptions.
