Overview
This spectacular John Cruz Master Design '63 Relic Strat brings a metric ton of mojo! If you're after a very special Custom Shop Strat with a completely unique spec' then look no further!
This model is much sought after, we highly recommend that you check out Fender's video on this guitar with Master Builder John Cruz giving the lowdown on the design process of this remarkable Master Design Strat. In essence it is the Strat that John would have created if the instrument was crafted for his own use. This particular example has only had one owner from new and includes the original receipt.
A Lightweight Alder Body with its Off-Center Seam sets the tone for the outré funkiness that this Strat bestows the player. Finished in Two-Tone Sunburst with a nitro lacquer, the relic work on display here is extremely tasteful - lots of lacquer checking and wear (check out the colour bleeding through on the forearm contour!).
The quartersawn maple neck is extremely comfortable to play with its Large "C" profile, worn lacquer and rolled fretboard. We particularly like the combination of the jumbo frets on a 12" radius, it makes bending a breeze!
The guitar is loaded with 3x Master Design Cruz Single-Coil Strat Pickups, the middle pickup is RWRP (reverse-wound, reverse-polarity) allowing for hum-cancelling on the 2nd & 4th selector positions. Custom wiring further sets this Strat apart with a master tone and a blend pot (where the second tone would normally be). This control blends the neck and bridge pickups together in position 1 & 5 and all three pickups together in positions two and four.
This Strat weighs-in at a comfortable 3.7kg (8.16lbs).
The guitar does have some wear but aesthetically there's nothing that would be considered incongruous with the relic work. The jumbo frets have a bit of wear but they do have plenty of life left in them still.
Please note that externally the Master Design case is not in brilliant shape, it has had a lot of marks from transport over the years and is lightly "tacky" in areas. Also, the latches could do with replacing - they do close shut but are fiddly to open (it's best to gently use a blunt lever to goad them open), they don't lock with the numeric code. Overall, expect this case just to be used functionally to protect the guitar as it's not in collector condition.
Case candy is present including the Certificate of Authenticity (two parts), Custom Care Card, Custom Card Envelope, Owner's Manual, Case Keys, Hang Tag, Original Receipt, Cruz Tools Kit etc. Please note that the Cruz Tools kit is missing a couple of items.
