It is a huge honour for Smokestack to present for sale this very special Gibson 2010 Custom Shop Played, Aged & Signed Don Felder “Hotel California” '59 Les Paul in Felder Burst. 

This particular guitar is a single-digit #8 (of 50) and was featured in Guitarist Magazine's Issue 464 (October 2020) in their Star Bursts/Exacting Standards article.

Played & signed by Don, and masterfully aged by the Custom Shop, the relicing work on display here is second to none; every little ding and mark is faithfully recreated. They went to such excruciating lengths to replicate the finest of details on Don's '59 Les Paul that his original is apparently kept locked away and he uses one of these to gig with. They truly are the closest you can get to owning and playing the real thing.

We love all the subtleties of this guitar, including the Bigsby snake bites, Nashville bridge, and of course the beautifully faded "Felder Burst" finish. The top selected for this Felder is a stunner too, with consistent tight flame throughout and some nice hints of vertical grain.

One of our favourite features is the unique neck profile. The Custom Shop took exact measurements from Felder's guitar and found the neck distinctly slimmer than on your typical '59 Les Paul. Noted officially by Gibson as a "Felder neck profile", what we have here is slimmed-down '59 shape heading slightly towards that of a SlimTaper profile - for us at least, it's perfect.

This Don Felder "Hotel California" 1959 Les Paul has come from one of the UK's finest collections. The guitar is presented in excellent condition throughout; upon careful inspection, it appears there are no additional dings added after the tasteful Custom Shop aging. Expect only some general patina to the lacquer from usage (on the back there's a very light surface scratch near the toggle switch cover plate). The frets are all in excellent condition throughout, showing only minimal signs of prior play.

The case candy includes the Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity, Don Felder signed Hotel California notation, Gibson hang tag, case key and a copy of the Guitarist Magazine issue of which the guitar is featured.

The original Custom Shop Hardshell Case w/Don Felder Silkscreen is included. It is in excellent condition with just some very minor marks from storage. As this guitar has come from one of the UK's finest collections, the case has been numbered "218" in marker pen on the front spine between the two leftmost latches.

Frequently named in polls for the “world’s greatest guitar solos”, and listed at #49 in Rolling Stone magazine’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”, Don Felder and Joe Walsh’s dual guitar solo on the Eagles’ “Hotel California” tapped a searing tone and an atmospheric vibe that still resonate today. In the recording studio, Don Felder used his ’59 Les Paul to play his leads on the Hotel California album, including his imaginative and thrilling work on the Hotel California track. To honor this legendary pairing of artist and instrument, Gibson Custom introduces the Don Felder “Hotel California” 1959 Les Paul guitar, in a strictly Limited Edition with only 50 aged and signed units, 100 agedunits and 150 VOS units produced. The instru- ment is crafted in the image of Gibson’s iconic 1959 Les Paul with a few twists unique to Don’s model which includes a smaller than usual neck for the era. All versions carry the same basic specs and the aged versions are aged to accurately reflect the look of Felder’s original ’59 Les Paul. All come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
