Overview

This completely original, fully enclosed trussed hollowbody design from Taylor's Andy Powers is SoCal surf-sophistication at its finest! V'dub Splitty and Mr. Zogg's Sex Wax not included, recycled surfboard resin is though (see the control knobs)! 

It's really exciting to have this immaculate-condition Powers Electric A-Type Select in Cosmo Red, fresh in stock. This "Select" model is their premium A-Type, featuring a beautiful solid flame maple top and an ebony saddle (Andy's personal favourite saddle option).

With a new RRP of £5278, here is your chance to grab some Southern Cali skate 'n' surf-inspired goodness at a much more approachable price!

Launched in early 2023, the A-Type has been received with universal fanfare and praise. The A-Type has all the vibes of a Splitty, but with the precision engineering of a classic air-cooled Porsche; in fact, the custom houndstooth and leather case was inspired by retro Porsche interiors. 

We're not being hyperbolic when we say the A-Type is truly one of the most unique new guitar designs we've seen in recent years; it's a fresh, thoroughly innovative design. The bottom line is - you don't want to, you need to play one of these right away (even if you don't buy from us, you have to check this model out somewhere!). 

Every detail of this lightweight hollowbody has been pored over by Andy. There is some incredibly sophisticated industrial design-work and craftsmanship going on here. From the mesmerising guilloché pattern on the aluminium backplate to the dynamic contrasting textures of the Polished Flame Maple top, Satin Finish Urban Ash back and Velvet Finish One-Piece Mahogany Neck - you know this has been constructed by a design virtuoso! 

Two of our favourite features on this A-Type are the Asymmetrical Honduran Rosewood Fretboard and the CamTail bridge. The Asymmetrical fretboard has a split radius that changes across the width of the fretboard (as opposed to end-to-end like a compound radius). The treble side is flatter, allowing for effortless bends. The camshaft-inspired "CamTail" bridge is a work of precision-engineering mastery. As Andy states, "I love the tactile expression of a vibrato but have never liked the way the strings aren't in sync as the pitch changes. I engineered a 'camshaft' tailpiece with string ramps compensated for tension and gauge to the strings move in pitch relative to each other".

This A-Type Select has been loaded with a pair of Partial Faraday 42 pickups, yet again, another inspired creation from Andy. They have been designed to have reduced magnetism. This allows the string to vibrate more naturally, enhancing sustain. They sound phenomenal too, bright with lots of clarity. The aluminum Faraday cage-style design has been concocted to limit interference. 

As the photographs attest, this guitar has been exceptionally well cared for by its owner. It has had only extremely light use since new and we are pleased to report that it is in immaculate condition throughout.

We would like to note that, as it is a pre-owned instrument, the hardware/metal parts have gained some unavoidable natural patina/oxidisation from age. However, there are no chips, dings or scratches anywhere on the guitar. There is some extremely fine playwear on the scratchplate, but if we had to rate the "level" of this playwear, it'd only be a 1/10. In short it would be extremely hard to find a pre-owned A-Type in nicer condition. 

The only other thing to note is that the case has been numbered in marker near the headstock end. Please see this in the final picture. It was numbered due to the guitar being part of one of the UK's very finest collections. Included in the case are the Powers Electric Registration card and Taylor card.

At the weigh-in, it is an extremely comfortable 2.91kg (6.42lbs).
