Overview
The ever elusive Suhr Standard Carve Top - we just can't get enough of them here at Smokestack Guitars, that is on the special occasions we actually manage to get one in!
The Suhr Standard Carve Top is truly an elegant beast; Equal parts workhorse and thoroughbred racehorse, this rare Pau Ferro Neck variation is no exception.
Crafted by Suhr in 2023 for Eddie's Guitars in Missouri, the previous owner bought it for $6499 and imported into the UK at great expense. This outstanding guitar has been used professionally on tour, as such there is a bit of provenance with it (if you'd like to know more about this please get in touch).
If you're after the mesmerising aesthetics of the legendary Carve Top Knopfler Spec but yearn for something with a more modern loadout then this is the one to have!
22x Stainless Steel Jumbo frets on a 10-14" compound radius, TUSQ nut, a pair of Thornbuckers and a Wilkinson WVS130-2P bridge with locking saddles & steel block. Combined with an outrageous Quilt Maple top, Genuine Mahogany body and an Oil Finish Pau Ferro neck (60's C Vintage Standard profile)...what's not to love?!!
As you'd expect, this guitar is just dripping in tone and has heaps of sustain, Suhr's magic is in full effect here!
We must stress that the figuring on this maple top is simply astonishing. It is highly expressive, with consistent heavy quilting throughout. Finished in a sleek Trans Amber we think it's the perfect balance of a smooth yet striking appearance.
The Pau Ferro neck features some beautiful marquetry with its exquisite selection of abalone inlay material for the headstock inlay, face ring dots and side dots. A set of gold Suhr Locking Tuners complete the rich aesthetics of the Pau Ferro headstock whilst providing unparalleled tuning stability in combination with the WVS130's locking saddles.
Having only left the Suhr workshop in late April 2023, the guitar has not had excessive use despite being on tour. The Stainless Steel Jumbo frets are in excellent condition showing virtually no signs of any wear. The gold hardware does show some light patina which is inevitable with usage.
Please note the guitar has a few small "road scars" and light playwear marks from touring but these are focused nearly all on the back of the guitar's body and on the side near the input jack where there are some indentations. There's nothing egregious that takes away from overall look and we have circled the main areas in the photos - please see the final 4 pictures and the closeup portrait photo of the guitar's back.
It's fair to say that the guitar's neck, frets and maple top can be catergorised as in excellent condition. There are a couple of pinhead indentations on the guitar's top but these are tiny and hard to find.
Suhr have supplied a set of replacement tremolo cavity and electronic cavity covers for the back of the guitar (the plate's pre-drilled holes require countersinking). The originals are still on the guitar and are in fine condition but there are some light surface marks on them so can be changed if this bothers you.
The case candy includes the truss rod wrench, hang tags, allen keys, Suhr Spec' Sheet etc. The original hardshell case is included and it is in excellent condition (there is one very light scratch on the top from storage).
The weight of this Carve Top is 3.61kg/7.95lbs.

Returns: Returns are allowed within 14 days of purchase. Goods must be returned to us in the exact same condition that they were sent in and you must contact us beforehand to authorise a return - no exceptions. The buyer is responsible for the item being safely returned and the return postage costs. The buyer must insure the item to its full value to avoid loss.
